Heat Pump Ready: Training California’s Clean Energy Workforce
California’s clean energy goals will succeed with the people who make them real. To reduce carbon emissions from buildings, the state needs enough trained HVAC and plumbing technicians in the field who know how to install, service, and commission heat pumps. As part of a rapidly evolving industry, heat pumps are now outselling gas furnaces – yet many training programs still rely on solutions from a previous era, and many technicians have yet to be trained on this emerging technology. This is the gap the Heat Pump Ready program was designed to close.

San Fernando Valley Incentive Training is Now Available
Contractors in the San Fernando Valley area will be able to offer TECH Clean California incentives for heat pump HVAC, heat pump water heaters, and other efficient electric technologies later this summer. These incentives are designed to help customers in this area reduce household exposure to natural gas.
Contractors will need to take training focused on the specific equipment type they would like to install. Trainings are already available for this month and next. Choose the training that works for you.

Breaking Barriers to Electrification: Lessons from the Multifamily Pilot
In California, multifamily housing makes up 30 percent of the state’s total residential buildings. This sector—which includes apartments, condos, and townhomes—will be instrumental in achieving equitable electrification and decarbonizing domestic hot water and space heating, especially because almost half of California’s low-income households live in multifamily housing. Multifamily housing faces significant barriers that make it difficult to convert from gas-fueled appliances to heat pump technology, including limited funds, electrical infrastructure complications, lack of awareness, and more.

TECH Clean California Announces 2026 Quick Start Grant Recipients
TECH Clean California awarded eight Quick Start Grants totaling $1.6 million to support targeted, innovative projects that test solutions to overcome market barriers to heat pump space and water heating adoption. Now in its second phase, the program focuses on refining intervention strategies that can scale statewide. All eight pilots have launched as of March 2026.

Claim Submission Timeline for HEEHRA Single Family Rebate Reservations Approved On or After November 25, 2025
Single-family rebate reservations approved on or after November 25, 2025, will have up to 120 days from the reservation approval date to install the heat pump HVAC and submit a claim with complete documentation in Iris. This deadline is for projects statewide and reflects the terms in the TPPA.

HEEHRA Rebates for Single Family Homes in Northern California Fully Reserved as of February 24, 2026
As of February 24, 2026, HEEHRA rebates for single family home retrofits in the Northern California region are fully reserved. Single family HEEHRA rebates are now fully reserved statewide, and no new income verification requests are being accepted at this time. All submitted reservation requests for projects in the Northern California region that were not approved have been put on a waitlist in case additional funding becomes available. Reservations submitted after February 24, 2026, will also be put on the waitlist.

Breaking Barriers to Electrification: Lessons from the Low-Income Leveraging Pilot
The TECH Clean California Low-Income Leveraging Pilot set out to tackle a critical challenge: making home electrification accessible for low-income households. By partnering with existing energy efficiency programs, the pilot provided supplemental funding for heat pump retrofits and home repairs, helping 520 households across California overcome cost barriers. The final report offers valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of electrification in low-income communities.

TECH Clean California is excited to announce that multifamily incentive reservation requests will now be accepted through December 18, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT. This is a 6-day extension on the original deadline, affecting both standard and enhanced support pathway (ESP) incentives. These incentives will be awarded via a random lottery system after the reservation request period.
